Labels

From Enowiki, the free online winemaking encyclopedia

Packaged wines require a label for identification and regulatory purposes. Wines usually contain two labels. The label on the back of the bottle that contains information regarding where the wine was bottled and produced, government warnings, the bottle’s volume and alcohol content, and the UPC bar codes is actually the legal label required by the government for retail sale of the wine. The front label is simply advertising designed by the winery to promote the product. Approval for use by the government is required of both labels. Winemakers will typically emphasize the name of the winery and the type of wine in the bottle.
