Rousanne is one of a popular trio of white grapes from the Rhône Valley. Typically this wine is paired with the varietal Marsanne. Rousanne can be a difficult grape to grow as it is susceptible to mildew, rot, and wind damage as well as being a low yielding grape. Better clonal selection has improved its problems somewhat in the vineyard though. Rousanne ripens mid to late season and produces medium sized long clusters that are moderately compact. Rousanne wines are often said to have the flavor of herbal tea and fresh flowers. Rousanne usually has a crisp acidity that pairs well with its richer flavored counterpart Marsanne.
