Here we are on October 6th and we still have only processed about 20% of our fruit for the year. As a comparison, in 2004 we had processed about 80% of our fruit by now. The recent rain and cooling down has pushed us back about another week. BUT, check out the 10 day forecast and things are looking pretty darn good. In most growing areas we're seeing highs around 80 (normal for this time of year). If we can keep those temps for two weeks and the rain stays away as projected, we are looking at a great harvest.
Note that we are seeing a bit of botrytis in some pinot sites (heavy rains in the Spring set the stage for this). Most of the pinot should be picked next week and we'll sort in the vineyard and at the winery. If need be, we'll double sort here. After, with little fruit coming in, people have a lot of time on their hands!
