Man this job is tiring

Maybe it's age but four hours of sleep just isn't enough. We had a small pinot pick at Amber Ridge and then we also needed to pick our acre of viognier at Catie's Corner. David Dain (www.dainwines.com) is in town for two weeks during crush so we headed up to Windsor in the 24' box truck and got to Amber to drop off bins around 9:30. We then headed over to the hotel and began our search for a restaurant. What's open at 10PM on a Monday in Windsor? Nothing. Nothing except the Quickie Mart where Dain and I battled it out to find the nastiest food to go with the bottle of suspect Sauvignon Blanc we bought. Dain's menu included string cheese and cashews, while I opted for the cold pork sandwich and BBQ chips. By 1AM we forced ourselves to sleep to counter the impending nausea. Alarm goes off at 5, we jump in the truck, drop bins off at Catie's Corner, pick up our fruit at Amber (they start picking at 3AM), pick up our fruit from Catie's and are back in San Francisco by noon.

136 emails and 11 voice mails when I get back.

Early hours

i can identify...lost any cred I may have had with my German half-brother back in '99 when I failed to drag myself out of bed to help pick their little vineyard- the vineyard is near Heidelberg, Peter & his wife live in Weimar, th former East.

There was a hailstorm on th way & an emergency four hour train ride at daybreak to save th crop from their little plot of replanted Mueller-Thurgau...
