Premier Coastal Vineyard is planted on rolling hills of sand in the northern, cooler, section of Santa Barbara County. These well-drained soils are really just sand dunes in much of the vineyard and this "soil" obviously holds very little water. This lack of water limits vigor, and generates smaller clusters, and small berries, which will yield concentrated wines. The east-west orientation of the coastal ranges in this area funnels evening fog and cool breezes into the vineyards, which lengthens the growing season, again contributing to concentrated flavors.
