Here's the thing: I know nothing about wine. Truly. No. Thing. I grew up in Napa, which -- as all the world knows -- is Wine Country (proper noun emphasis intended), and yet know nothing. Did I mention I know nothing about wine? 'Cause I meant to...mention it, that is.
You see, I'd never really known anyone who was in the wine industry. Even in school, most of my friends and their families were involved in other areas of work, largely in public service and education.
So, when a friend of mine turned me on to Crushpad and the concept of Community Crush, I was thrilled, and not a little nervous. I mean, how much of an idiot am I going to make of myself here?
Turns out, I don't care. Imagine that! I just want to learn and create and drink yummy, yummy wine! :-)

Being from the Midwest, I've always been surprised at how much EVERY Nor Cal kid knows just because they hear about things around them. On the news, in the paper, friends who turn up at parties with their own trash can hooch...
You can run but eventually you have to admit that you know a decent glass of wine when it's poured for you.

Heh. I grew up in the Midwest--Minnesota, to be precise--and there's a weird law in Minnesota that forbids people from selling liquor and wine in grocery stores. There's even an organized consumer group lobbying against it at http://winewithdinner.com/ . In any event, when I moved to California in 2005, I was surprised at how much wine I was seeing in the grocery stores, even little corner stores, and I wondered whether that was because I wasn't used to seeing wine there or because Northern Californians drink a lot of wine.
I've concluded that it's a little of both. :-D
