I am a Fireman in the bay area. I have traveled fairly extensively, the last trip was to France for a few months with my girlfriend, who is French. After living with her there, I became much more interested in Wine, perhaps after having some "forced" down my throat by her father (oh how horrible it was)....such as some 1980's era Nuits-St. Georges that retail here for 300+ but he bought for 9 Francs a piece then...kind of an eye opening experiance compared to your average pinot noir in the US.
Favorite Wines:
REDS ------------ ++France++ - Burgunies - artisanal production, unfiltered/unfined in areas like Vosne-Romanee, Nuits-St-Georges, Gevrey-Chambertin, Morey (I prefer most of them with some age, 8 or so years) Rhones - Chateauneuf-du-papes, Cote-Rotie, Hermitage, Cornas, St. Joseph , good Cote du Rhones, Loires like Chinon ++Spain++ - Riojas, Basque reds WHITES ------------- ++France++ - Most unoaked or very lightly oaked chardonnay such as Chablis and other burgundy whites, and also many Rhone whites and newly discovered Savennières....what an incredible wine! ++Spain++ - Albarino... ROSES ----------------- Tavels, Bandols and some Spanish roses
